Single mensch, 29, seeking date—just one!—with beautiful Charlie's Angels star of boyhood dreams. L.A.-based Aquarius filmmaker enjoys quirky challenges, singing in cars and Grease 2. Looking for one very special actress who...

Must Believe in Fate: Brian Herzlinger didn't place a personal ad, but in the new documentary My Date with Drew, he tries just about every trick in the book to land a date with his idol Drew Barrymore. His budget for the date—and the movie: $1,100, which he pocketed on a game show pilot where the winning answer was—yes—Drew Barrymore. "I took it as a sign," Herzlinger says. The then-unemployed production assistant bought an expensive digital video camera and set a goal of landing the big date before the 30-day return policy expired. He chronicles his quest, from a practice date with a Drew look-alike to a painful attempt at a chest wax. (Does he score the date? We're not telling, though Drew does have a boyfriend, Fabrizio Moretti.)

Must Love Dreamers: "Everybody's got a seemingly unattainable crush on the person who's on the poster of their bedroom wall growing up," says Herzlinger. But why the E.T. ingenue the Marlton, N.J., native fell for when he was 6? "For her to get through the child-actor phase to become one of the biggest stars in the world but retain this positive outlook on life—I respect her for that," he says. "She's got that free spirit." Must Win Over Mom: In one funny scene, Herzlingers tabloid-devouring mom, Zita, 52, deems Barrymore unworthy of her son. But, says Herzlinger. "She's come around."
