•FIRST BOOK is giving books to displaced children. A $5 donation sends one book. Go to www.firstbook.org

•FRIEND SHIPS
The Lake Charles, La., group's five ships usually carry aid to foreign disaster sites. •HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
Money and construction materials given now will be used to build on the Gulf Coast. Volunteers can sign up at www.habitatforhumanity.org

•THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF THE UNITED STATES is rescuing and housing abandoned animals. www.hsus.org

•NATIONAL CENTER FOR MISSING & EXPLOITED CHILDREN
They aren't taking donations but are maintaining an online clearinghouse to match kids and parents separated by the storm. See www.missingkids.com or call 1-800-THE LOST (1-800-843-5678)

•THE SALVATION ARMY
A $100 donation will feed a family of four for two days, provide two cases of drinking water and a household cleaning kit. Contact www.salvationarmyusa.org

•UNITED WAY OF AMERICA
The group will support dozens of communities that have taken in evacuees and provide long-term recovery to the devastated areas, www.unitedway.org

Not charities but Web sites matching refugees with people who have rooms or homes to spare.
