Just four days short of their first wedding anniversary, Britney Spears and Kevin Federline received the gift they wanted the most: a healthy baby, Sean Preston Federline, who weighed in at 6 lbs. 11 oz. "We are ecstatic to announce the birth of our son," the couple said on their Web site. "Everyone is happy, healthy and doing wonderful. Thank you all for your love and well wishes!!"
Spears and Federline arrived at Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center early on the morning of Sept. 14 with Spears's mom, Lynn, and sister Jamie in tow. She had originally been scheduled for a C-section the next day, but the surgery was moved up after she began experiencing early contractions. With her husband at her side, Spears, 23, was wheeled into the operating room, and both parents were crying when the baby was born. Federline, 27, who held his wife's hand throughout the operation, "was very affectionate toward her," says a source. After the delivery, Spears was moved to the maternity ward's VIP suite. "The baby never once left her side," says the source.
Now home in Malibu, Sean has a brand-new nursery in Mom and Dad's just-renovated, 9,000-sq.-ft. crib. And he already has a substantial wardrobe. In addition to the gifts she got at her Aug. 6 Moroccan-themed baby shower, Spears has stocked up herself. On one visit to Kitson Kids on Aug. 2, "Britney was completely in baby mode," says owner Fraser Ross. "She knew her due date was coming up and was definitely excited." Among her purchases: onesies and a cashmere sweater with a faux Mommy tattoo on the sleeve. She has also been inundated with gifts from friends and family, including a pair of Yo My Booties angora booties, a tunic and a hat from an assistant and some Just Had a Baby T-shirts from a pal.
With some practice already under her belt playing stepmom to Federline's children Kori, 3, and Kaleb, 1, Spears should be ready for her new role. "I've known her for many years, and she's a very loving person," says 'N Sync's Lance Bass. "She'll be a great mom."
