In the mid-1980s, a teenage boy's world crumbles when his writer parents (Laura Linney and Jeff Daniels) announce they're splitting up. This coming-of-age story, which also stars Jesse Eisenberg and Owen Kline (son of Kevin Kline and Phoebe Cates), is smart, artfully observed and beautifully acted. Noah Baumbach wrote and directed. The waiters (Ryan Reynolds, Justin Long) and cooks (Luis Guzmán) in a crude comedy set at a restaurant spend their shift seeking opportunities to covertly flash their genitals and make coworkers look. Some fun, huh? Despite a few laughs, this one is a long way from sizzling. (R)
