Neo-new wave doesn't get much better than "Take Me Out," last year's ridiculously catchy dance-rock anthem that made Franz Ferdinand the poster boys of the skinny-tie brigade. But these sharp-dressed Scots do it again with the irresistible come-on "Do You Want To," the first single off the follow-up to their self-titled debut. Like "Take Me Out," it begins with an intro, during which lead singer Alex Kapranos teases, "When I woke up tonight I said I'm/Going to make somebody love me." And you will indeed be smitten by the time this sexy stomper is over. There is plenty else to love about Franz Ferdinand's sophomore effort, which finds the quartet upping the ante with greater dynamics, shifting tempos and a bigger musical vision. They even try out ballads for the first time, displaying a Beatles-esque beauty on "Fade Together." But it's the driving, delirious rhythms of songs like "This Boy" and the bitter "You're the Reason I'm Leaving" that will keep you coming back for more.
