What's a poor, put-upon movie star to do? Photographers give you no rest, snapping pix of you and your family even after you politely ask them to stop. Perhaps Paparazzi is Mel Gibson's way of getting even. Gibson produced this turgid revenge drama, in which an up-and-coming Hollywood action star (Hauser) turns vigilante after his wife (Tunney) and young son are injured—shades of Princess Diana's death—when the family's car crashes while being recklessly chased by ruthless shutterbugs.

In a show of celeb solidarity, Matthew McConaughey and Chris Rock turn up in cameos, as does Gibson. Hauser is bland, and Tunney has little to do, thus leaving room for Farina, as a wily police detective, and Sizemore, as the most venal of the photogs, to chew scenery contentedly without competition. (PG-13)
