This Is My Time

Raven-Symoné, 18-year-old star of the Disney Channel's That's So Raven series, thinks this is her time to join the ranks of teen actresses turned pop princesses. To be fair, although best known for her TV work since appearing on The Cosby Show, Raven was signed to MCA Records when she was 5 and has previously released two discs. But her new CD fails to take flight due to lackluster songs (five of which she cowrote) that sound like poor hand-me-downs from Hilary, Britney and Beyoncé. While Raven has a passable voice that can hold its own with the Christina Milians of the world, she mostly comes off as a pop-star wannabe on tracks like the Middle Eastern-flavored "Mystify," the hip-hop-tinged "Backflip" and the rock-edged "Typical," on which she proves to be just that.
