Just days before the presidential election, Eminem held an invitation-only "Shady National Convention" at Manhattan's Roseland Ballroom, where the crowd waved signs that read Vote Yes for E. The rapper staged the mock convention and mini concert on Oct. 28 to promote his new satellite radio channel, Shade 45, and the Nov. 16 release of his CD Encore. Eminem took the stage in a dark suit, white shirt and red tie to declare, "If elected, I will throw a party in the club with my homies!" Apparently confident of victory, his homies were already in the house—Bono, Carson Daly, 50 Cent, Dr. Dre, Gisele Bündchen and Donald Trump. What does The Donald see in Slim Shady? "He's got brains," Trump told us. "He's got guts. He's got my vote."
TAKING IN A FASHION SHOW, PARIS STYLE
Ah, the life of an heiress-reality star-socialite. Taking a brief break from shooting The Simple Life 3 in New York City last week, Paris Hilton flew to L.A., where she managed to see the Rock & Republic Fashion Show Oct. 29. Then again, "see" may be too strong a word. After sweeping into the event, pausing only for pictures—no interviews—Hilton headed straight to the bar in the VIP area. After asking no one in particular, "Where's Chad?" a few times, Hilton found her pro skateboarder pal Chad Muska and the two took their front-row seats next to rapper Eve. Hilton then proceeded to ignore the models strutting their stuff for most of the 15-minute show, spending her time text messaging on her Swarovski crystal-encrusted Sidekick II. She did stop texting during the finale, when the designers, including Victoria Beckham, took their bows—but only to reapply her makeup.
LEO PAYS TO PLAY, PINK DOES NOT
While Gisele was partying with Eminem, her man Leonardo DiCaprio held court with his homies in his regular booth at L.A.'s Prey. Leo's 12-member posse—including actor Lukas Haas—looked pretty bored except for Entourage star Kevin Connolly, who locked lips with his former girlfriend Nicky Hilton. Maybe Pink, who pulled up to the club in a limo, could have gotten the party started but she never made it in. When the rocker learned she couldn't get a free table and would have to pony up the $500 minimum for a booth, she left. Did Leo pay? Absolutely. Nobody sits at Prey for free.
