Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen snuck in through the kitchen of New York's Carolines on Broadway comedy club to attend a Nov. 8 auction hosted by their former TV dad, Bob Saget, to benefit the Scleroderma Research Foundation. When the "Best of Napa Valley" package came up, the 18-year-old twins threw their hands in the air and spent $58,000 to buy a first-class flight for two to San Francisco, a luxurious stay at the Valley's Carneros Inn and 10 bottles of wine. One catch: The twins are minors, so the vino is a no-no. A rep for the Olsens says they had intended the package to be a gift for their dad, David. To make sure everything was on the up-and-up, a rep for the foundation called the senior Olsen, who offered to pay for the prize himself. "We'll deliver it directly to him," says Foundation rep Charles Spaulding. "It was our biggest donation of the evening."
DESPERATE FORYARD MEN
Nicholas Gonzalez, who plays D. J., a hunky young gardener on The O.C., tells us he used to date actress Eva Longoria, who now stars on Desperate House-wives as a woman carrying on an affair with...a hunky young gardener (played by Jesse Metcalfe). Gonzalez, for one, isn't tuning in to see what happens: "I know what it's like [to be] with her, so I don't have to watch her on TV," says Gonzalez. "I'm single now. I'm single and ready to plant some crops."
50 CENT'S NEW GIG
At the BAFTA/LA's Britannia Awards in Beverly Hills Nov. 4, Irish director Jim Sheridan spent much of his time chatting with his unlikely date: rapper 50 Cent. The pair are planning to collaborate on Locked and Loaded, a movie about 50 Cent's thug life in New York City. Filming starts in March, and the MC, who's working with acting coaches, will star. "People think it's mad," says Sheridan, "but I think we're going to be interesting together." The Irishman's sunny charm seems to have already mellowed the rap star. When someone at the event approached him and said, "Excuse me, Mr. Cent?" the rapper doubled over with laughter, put his arm around her, and said, "Please, call me 50."
