It won't make anybody forget the Indiana Jones pictures, but this TV movie figures to please viewers partial to tongue-in-cheek adventure with plenty of action and practically no blood.
Though he doesn't look like the nerd he's supposed to be at the outset, ER's Noah Wyle seems to enjoy himself in the role of a perennial student who reluctantly enters the employment market after earning 22 degrees. A strange interview at the public library with reserved boss Bob Newhart and flinty personnel director Jane Curtin leads Wyle to a job protecting a secret collection of historical treasures. Next thing you know, baddies from the Serpent Brotherhood break in and steal a piece of the Spear of Destiny. Wyle's mission: Stop them before they find the other two fragments, put the spear together and hand world domination to chief villain Kyle MacLachlan.
As the trail leads from the Amazon to the Himalayas, the banter wears thin between Wyle and his beautiful, sardonic bodyguard (Sonya Walger). But don't close the book on The Librarian too soon; the climax packs a few laughs along with the punches.
