Gossip. Innuendo. Anonymous notes. Why save all the fun for Desperate Housewives? Nicollette Sheridan, who plays tarty Edie in the hit soap, is embroiled in a drama of her own—kicked off by viewers who have posted comments about her looks on AwfulPlastic Surgery.com. The site concluded that she "had a face lift" and "overall looks pretty hard these days." Even the usually kind columnist Liz Smith noted on Nov. 22 that the star looks "startlingly exotic these days; features up and a little slanted, a little trans-gendered-esque."
Perhaps that's just Sheridan looking mad. In a statement released Dec. 2, she condemned strangers' speculation about lifts to her face, eye and brow as "malicious and patently false rumors...sprung whole cloth from their feverish, overactive and inaccurate imaginations." At her request, her longtime friend Dr. Frank Ryan, a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, examined her—and, he said, found not a single scar: "She's had no plastic surgery on her face and that's all there is to it." But Dr. Richard Fleming, also a prominent Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, is skeptical. "I'm just speculating [but] her cheeks look fuller, the hollows of her cheeks more prominent. How come?" Dr. Ryan has a ready explanation. "Her cheeks are more indented," he says, because "over time, facial fullness diminishes." Bottom line? "If Nicollette had had plastic surgery," he says, "she would have turned to me."
