Decked out in a Alireza lacy minidress, Britney Spears keeps a low profile with her equally dolled-up Chihuahua Bitbit—the pup is wearing a $100,000 Lorraine Schwartz diamond cuff around its neck—on the red carpet. In her first public appearance since getting married in September, Spears presented the rapper of the year trophy to Kanye West.

It's a plaid, plaid world for Gwen Stefani, posing with her backup dancers, who joined her onstage as she sang a medley of her new singles "What You Waiting For?" and "Rich Girl."

Alicia Keys looks priceless in elegant jewelry. Keys won seven awards, including female artist of the year. When asked about the strangest rumor she'd heard about herself, Keys said, "That I'm Clive Davis's illegitimate daughter."

Kicking off the show wit his song "Bad Girl," Usher wows the crowd with former Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro. The R&B singer picked up 11 awards, including single of the year for his smash "Yeah!"

At Mann's Chinese Theatre, George Clooney escorts two leading ladies—his girlfriend, British model Lisa Snowdon, and his mother, Nina. When asked whether he'd spoken to costar Julia Roberts, who stayed at home with her newborn twins, he joked, "I was there for the birth."

Serena Williams is aces in an emerald Chloé frock and matching fur purse, with shoes by Roberto Cavalli.

Heating up the red carpet is no chore for Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria, dressed in an Armani gown and heels.

Brad Pitt (left) cracks up with Matt Damon at the afterparty held at the Hollywood + Highland entertainment complex. Pitt recalled that when the Ocean's cast first reunited to begin shooting Twelve, the actors had to be careful around Damon, who had just wrapped The Bourne Supremacy. "You didn't want to sneak up on him," says Pitt, "because he'd [pull karate moves on you]. You had to tread lightly."

The next day the actress met up with fellow blonde Paris Hilton for a shopping spree. The platinum pair seem to enjoy each other's company—and taste in clothes. That night they turned up at Guy's in matching T-shirt dresses, Ugg boots and pink cutout gloves.

A beaming Oprah Winfrey gets a smooch from cohost Tom Cruise at the 2004 Nobel Peace Prize Concert. "When the Nobel committee calls, you try to answer yes," said Winfrey. "And I like to go wherever Tom Cruise goes, so I said double yes." The celebration, which featured performances by Tony Bennett, Patti LaBelle and the Polyphonic Spree, was held to honor Kenyan environmentalist Wangari Maathai, the first African woman to re- ceive the prestigious prize. The concert airs Dec. 23 on E! Entertainment Television.
