Lemon Love

With her big hooks, confessional lyrics and piano-powered pop, newcomer Aslyn alternately comes across as this year's Vanessa Carlton and the female answer to Gavin DeGraw. But this singer-songwriter and classically trained pianist also supplies enough of her own personality and panache to make her likable debut far from a Lemon (to use the car analogy that inspired the plaintive title tune). "I'm not here to be around/And be that girl that you forget about," she sings on the feisty first single "Be the Girl." With her quirky voice and engaging storytelling on cuts like "Wally," a touching ode to her grandparents, Aslyn definitely makes a lasting impression.
