The View cohost Elisabeth Hasselbeck and her husband, NFL quarterback Tim Hasselbeck, both 27, welcomed their first child, daughter Grace, April 6 in New York City. "Both Elisabeth and I are extremely excited," said Tim. Mom is due back at work in May.
Actor Joaquin Phoenix (Ladder 49), 30, recently checked himself into a California rehab facility for alcohol abuse. "He was uncomfortable with the way he was living his life and found the courage to deal with the disease," said a rep for the actor.
Aimee Osbourne, 21, the oldest daughter of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, had surgery to remove a lump from her breast. "Aimee's had a breast cancer scare," said Sharon, who was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2002. "The operation went very well, but there have been a few minor complications and she will be having more treatment over the next few weeks." Mother and daughter have withdrawn from their planned appearances in the London production of The Vagina Monologues.
Chris Shelton, 22, a contestant on the most recent installment of The Apprentice, was arrested April 10 for disorderly conduct after causing a scene at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tampa, Fla. Shelton was allegedly upset about a $20 cover charge at the hotel bar and ignored a police officer who attempted to calm him down. Shelton posted $250 bail and was released hours later. "We don't really have any comment," a spokesman for the show said. "This is clearly a private matter with Chris." ...Actor Vincent Pastore (The Sopranos), 58, was arrested April 5 in New York City and charged with assault after an altercation with his girlfriend Lisa Regina, 44. Pastore was released and ordered to stay away from Regina.
On April 4 Sean "P. Diddy" Combs, 35, was ordered to pay more than $21,000 a month in child support to his ex-girlfriend Misa Hylton-Brim, 31, the mother of their son Justin, 11. The decision came after the rapper appealed a Westchester family court ruling that ordered him to pay $35,000 a month (PEOPLE, Sept. 6, 2004). Hylton-Brim originally sued last year claiming that the $5,000 a month Combs was paying was not sufficient. "Mr. Combs has always taken great care of his son," said his rep.
Dale Messick, 98, the pioneering female comic strip artist who created feisty, red-haired journalist Brenda Starr, died April 5 in Penngrove, Calif., of undisclosed causes.... Frank Conroy, 69, author of the 1967 memoir Stop-Time, a sobering account of his troubled childhood, died April 6 in Iowa City, Iowa, of colon cancer.
