Songs from the Longleaf Pines: A Gospel Bluegrass Collection

Daniels may be best known for his 1979 hit "The Devil Went Down to Georgia," but this album of religious songs is both inspired and inspiring. While Daniels's occasional spoken homilies don't add much, the music itself is first pew. Singing and playing the fiddle, Daniels embraces such traditional favorites as "Walking in Jerusalem (Just Like John)" and "Keep on the Sunny Side." He and his bandmates (including guests Ricky Skaggs and banjoist supreme Earl Scruggs) reverently assume a devout tone on soul-stirrers like "How Great Thou Art." But on lively numbers such as "I'll Fly Away," they'll put the spirit in your feet.
