Craig Moorgan, My kind of Livin' If ever there was such a thing as a good ol'boy, it's Morgan, whose warm, conversational style is an affable mix of Randy Travis and James Taylor on this terrific, old-fashioned country CD.
Bruce Springsteen, Devils & Dust Springsteen, sans the E Street Band, keeps it raw and rootsy on an evocative mood piece. The stripped-down approach on these heartland rockers and dusty ballads puts the focus squarely on the Boss.
Kristin Chenoweth, As I am Understated Thoughtful and delicate going on intimate, this CD is a splendid showcase for the Tony-winning Chenoweth, whose soaring soprano is ideally suited to the spiritual numbers.
Chely Wright, The Metropolitan Hotel This is a top-notch effort by a top-shelf country artist whose singing has become unusually expressive, as on her great version of "C'est la Vie (You Never Can Tell)."
