Putting harsh feelings on hold, Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards make nice on Father's Day weekend
Denise Richards and Charlie Sheen certainly didn't look like a couple about to get divorced. The two, who reunited over the Father's Day weekend to take their 2-week-old daughter, Lola, to visit a family friend in L.A., seemed relaxed, happy and even affectionate. But don't be fooled: Sources close to the couple say the cheery weekend outing doesn't mean a reconciliation is in the offing. Says a Richards insider: "They're trying to get along for the sake of their kids." (The couple also have a second daughter, Sam, 1.) Another source says that despite the breakdown of her marriage, Richards, 34, wants Sheen, 39, to stay involved as a dad. "She's not trying to take their father away," says the source. "She's always wanted him to be a part of the children's lives."
DENISE'S POST-BABY BODY
Looking at Denise Richards strolling down the street, few people would guess she had a baby less than three weeks ago. How'd she do it? "She eats healthy," says an insider. "She consults with a nutritionist and watches what she eats." Richards also plans on enlisting in a diet delivery program. But no working out for now: She delivered by cesarean section and can't exercise yet. When fully recovered, she'll resume sessions with her longtime trainer Ray Kybartas.
Leonardo DiCaprio may need a touch of extra makeup while filming the Martin Scorsese Mob drama The Departed in Boston this week. DiCaprio, 30, received about a dozen stitches under his left ear after a woman smashed his face with a bottle around 4 a.m. on June 17 at a small party at the Hollywood Hills home of Rick Salomon (a.k.a. Paris Hilton's video sex partner). "Leo was attacked by a woman who was trespassing," Ken Sunshine, the actor's rep, told PEOPLE. "The woman was reportedly looking for an ex-boyfriend." She may also have known DiCaprio, who filed a police crime report three days later. Police said their investigation is ongoing, and no arrests had been made at press time.
Jen's New Jewelry
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner took a weekend trip to New York City June 18, and although the couple have yet to acknowledge an engagement, Garner sported a diamond-studded ring on her left hand throughout the visit. (The stars' reps deny that a wedding is in the works.) According to jewelry experts Penny Proddow and Marion Fasel, Garner is wearing an eternity band with round diamonds, most likely from Harry Winston. And although Winston won't confirm that the jewelry is theirs, the famed 6.1-carat, pink diamond ring that Affleck bought for Jennifer Lopez was purchased from—and later returned to—the celebrity jeweler.
LINDSAY'S BIG DAY
Lindsay Lohan had reason to party June 19. Her new movie, Herbie: Fully Loaded, premiered in L.A. Then it was off to celebrate her 19th birthday—even though it doesn't actually take place until July 2—at the new Hollywood hot spot Basque. "She is going to be in Minnesota filming a movie [A Prairie Home Companion], so we wanted to have something here with friends and family," says a friend, explaining the early celebration. Guests, including her mom, Dina, and Nicole Richie, dined on crab cakes, chicken and cake before hitting the dance floor. Among Lohan's birthday presents: a 5-carat diamond ring, a necklace and a coffee-table book. The festivities lasted until 2 a.m.
Mary-Kate's Solo Party
A few days after celebrating turning 19 with twin Ashley at a sedate family dinner in L.A., Mary-Kate Olsen arrived sisterless at the Manhattan club Bungalow 8 at 1 a.m June 17 for a different sort of birthday party. In a white minidress that kept slipping from her shoulders, she hopped into the arms of her friend, model Natalia Vodianova, for a smooch, then wore a cowboy hat while smoking Parliament Lights, sipping from a champagne glass and grinding to songs like "Get Right." Sometime after a cake was brought out and candles blown, she exited, exhausted, with her bodyguard and her entourage at 3 a.m. Says her rep: "She deserves to let off a little steam."
+ ROY: NEW TREATMENT
Entertainer Roy Horn has entered a clinic where, the German paper Bild reports, he is undergoing an experimental treatment with a doctor who utilizes stem cells from pig embryos to stimulate and repair damaged nerve cells. Horn, 60, incapacitated since being mauled by his white tiger Montecore in 2003, is expected to remain at the Leonardis Clinic in Bad Heilbrunn, Germany, for six weeks.
Honeymoon in Vegas
She had him from hello. But what with his concert touring and her movie promotion (for Cinderella Man), Renée Zellweger, 36, did not have more than a couple of days alone with Kenny Chesney since the two said "I do" in the U.S. Virgin Islands on May 9. So when Chesney, 37, finally got a break from his concert lineup, they made the most of it, hightailing it to Las Vegas for at least five days of fun—and exercise—in the sun. Escorted by bodyguards, the honeymooners hit the Las Vegas Athletic Club June 9 for a workout. Three days later, they partied with friends at Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville, where they returned for lunch the next day. On June 13, they were seen lounging in a cabana on the man-made beach at Mandalay Bay. But it was soon back to work for Chesney, who resumed touring June 17.
Tink: Dog Fight!
Has the spoiled lifestyle of Paris Hilton's Chihuahua Tinkerbell sparked a celebrity backlash? Missy Elliott recently snapped up a doggie T-shirt that reads, "I hate Tinkerbell, That Bitch has everything" on a $1,500 shopping spree for her Yorkie, Poncho. Tori Spelling's pug Mimi LaRue owns the shirt, too—and the actress has a tank top that says, "My dog can beat up Paris Hilton's dog." Spelling is an honorary board member of Much Love Animal Rescue, which sells the top for $20. "Paris is a good friend of mine, and I know she would laugh at it," she says.
WHEN OPRAH KNOCKS
Unbelievably, there exists a door that doesn't open for Oprah Winfrey—as the talk show host found when she arrived at the Hermès store in Paris recently. "Our shop closes at 6:30," said a store rep. "She came after the shop was already closing." Press and Internet reports claimed Winfrey, 51, was turned away for racial reasons. Not so, says the rep. "We know and value her as a customer." Oprah's rep would only confirm she was in Paris.
Friends veteran Lisa Kudrow stars in The Comeback, an HBO series about a former sitcom actress hoping to return to stardom while filming a reality-show documentary about the attempt. "It's been really fun," Kudrow, 41, tells Scoop. But please don't confuse Kudrow with her character. "We're really not alike."
How did you celebrate the premiere of The Comeback? Have a big party?
No, actually, I didn't watch it. I've seen it so many times already. And, these days, I go to bed really early, between 9 and 10, so I was already in bed.
Sounds like you're exhausted.
We start at 7 a.m. And I have hair and makeup before that. It's a 12-hour day. These days I don't have any down time. I'm always doing something.
The Comeback is very close in nature to a reality show. Do you watch those?
I do. I watch The Apprentice, and America's Next Top Model, and Gastineau Girls. And there are shows on PBS I love: Colonial House and Frontier House.
What's home life like? Any pets? Hobbies?
No new hobbies. And no pets, please! My son wants a mouse, and it's just out of the question. Even a mouse! We cannot have one more thing to feed or tend to.
Have any pets now?
Yes, a dog.
Does your son Julian, 7, watch the new show?
He's seen parts of it. It's not that interesting to him. He's like, "I don't need to see that!"
Heard from any of the old Friends gang lately?
Matt [LeBlanc] was at the premiere screening, and he loved it.
How about the others?
Any chance Matt, Matthew, Courteney, Jennifer or David might be guests on your new show?
We haven't planned to have any famous guests because we don't know how to justify Valerie Cherish knowing any of these people.
So no chance at all?
Only if we run out of hardships for Valerie and have to bring in some famous people to ignore her.
ON THE BLOCK
PRICE: $2.9 million
PLACE: Hendersonville, Tenn.
The Man in Black enjoyed a little green. This rambling 18-room house, a massive stone structure where the late Johnny Cash and his wife, June Carter Cash, lived for 35 years, is up for sale. Most of the couple's personal possessions were sold at auction, but the lakeside nest, on 4.6 acres, does have seven bedrooms, 5 ½ baths and a pool.
