Ain't show business grand? Oscar-winner Vanessa Redgrave, who recently thrilled Broadway audiences with her Tony-winning turn in Long Day's Journey into Night, provides the voice for a talking dog in this genial kids' comedy. She brings the woof down. Through tone and inflection, she gives her Greater Dane, the top dog among the pawed set on a planet where canines rule, enormous gravitas. Good Boy! is about Owen (Aiken), a lonely 12-year-old boy, who adopts Hubble, a mutt marooned on this world after traveling from the pooch-centric planet. Hubble, who can yak, takes a dim view of how dogs are treated on Earth until he is exposed to the joys of playing fetch. Still, he hopes to return home. Think of Boy! as the doggie version of E.T The Extra-Terrestrial, only with less magic. As Owen's preoccupied folks, Nealon and Shannon are underutilized. (PG)
