Suspense novelist Daisy (Candice Bergen) resolves to spend a night alone at her beach house and conquer the fears underlying her recent nervous breakdown. Uh-oh, what was that? Someone hiding in the closet?

Based on an unproduced play by Ira Levin (Rosemary's Baby; Deathtrap), this TV movie is stagy and a little creaky. But if you give it a few minutes, the old-fashioned thriller will hook you despite its flaws. Bergen is effective as a woman under siege, and Bug Hall is suitably ambiguous as a young fan whose presence raises Daisy's anxiety level. Bryan Brown practically winks his way through the role of a policeman who frightens the lady further, but he's probably right not to take this film too seriously.
