Given the success he has had with patriotic songs, Greenwood should be commended for not trying to exploit the country's recent flag-waving fervor on his latest. While the CD does include a relatively restrained new version of his signature hit "God Bless the USA," none of the other 11 tunes smack of patriotism, and many are very ingratiating. Greenwood's voice, although not quite up there with Kenny Rogers among husky-voiced tenors, remains strong, true and pleasantly pitched. He has an ideal instrument for the smart, rueful "It Almost Makes Me Glad" and the romantic ballad "Love Me Like You've Never Been Hurt." And he remains one of those old-school guys who can sing about gas stations and doughnut shops without embarrassing himself.
