Jane
Lindsay Price
Age: 27
Love life: Engaged to TV producer Shawn Piller
Best known as Beverly Hills, 90210's Janet Sosna, Price, 27, complains, "I was always playing nice girls." Not anymore. Just when she was going to quit acting to pursue songwriting, she got the plum part of Jane, the accommodating bisexual who even dates gay men. Price inherited her striking looks from a Korean mother and German-Irish father. Do they like her show? "Let me put it this way: They think I'm a good actress. I'm holding my breath to hear what people at their church say."
Jeff
Christopher Moynihan
Age: 30
Love life: Single
Moynihan, most recently seen strumming a guitar as one of the New Main Street Singers in A Mighty Wind, plays Patrick and Steve's sounding board, cheerleader and designated "porn buddy"—the guy who'll secretly remove X-rated material from their apartments in case of death. "I wouldn't require a porn buddy," says Moynihan, son of a NYPD officer. "You could search my place high and low, and you'd find a lot of show tunes and Barry Manilow sheet music but no porn."
Susan
Rena Sofer
Age: 34
Love life: Married to TV director Sanford Bookstaver
The General Hospital and Just Shoot Me alum plays the show's most avid sexual-thrill seeker, recently moving on from Patrick to Steve. But Sofer herself is after more innocent excitement: "I'm working my way through Harry Potter," an obsession she shares with Rosabel, 7, her daughter from her first marriage. The Arcadia, Calif., native is the daughter of an Orthodox rabbi, who's "a huge fan of the show." After all, "America loves Sex and the City. How much racier is that?"
Steve
Jay Harrington
Age: 31
Love life: Single
While Harrington's commitment-challenged Steve works out the kinks in his sex life with Jane (his off/on ex) and Susan, his latest one-nighter, the New England-reared actor has his own offscreen trio: He and his two brothers, Adam, 25, an actor, and Matt, 29, a production assistant, play in an amateur hockey league. "I've been skating since I was little," says Harrington, who was a cop on cable's The Division. "Now that we're all out here, nothing's changed."
Sally
Sonya Walger
Age: 29
Love life: Has a boyfriend based in Canada
Walger, cast as Susan's man-hungry confidante, is actually British—Oxford educated, in fact. "I have a dialogue coach who helps me out with some of the more tricky Chicago vowel sounds," says Walger, who moved to L.A. in 2001 and starred in HBO's The Mind of the Married Man. Her Spanish doesn't need any help: She's the bilingual daughter of an Argentine father and English mother who met in Spain. "It's a beautiful story," she says. "I'm writing a novel based on it."
Patrick
Colin Ferguson
Age: 31
Love life: Single
The Montreal native, until now most often recognized as Burke from 1998's More Tales of the City, plays the show's stud. When he's not bed-hopping onscreen, Ferguson spends a lot of time under the hood of his '74 van or getting his passport stamped. "I recently visited China," says Ferguson, the son of international bankers. "I've been in the Andes." Coupling, possibly the most risqué prime-time sitcom ever, is adventure enough for now. "I admit when I first saw the scripts," he says, "I did wonder how they'd get it on the air."
