EXPECTING
Actress Helen Hunt (What Women Want), 40, and writer-producer Matthew Carnahan (FOX's Fastlane), 43, are expecting their first child this summer. The couple have been dating" since 2001.

BIRTHS
NYPD Blue star Mark-Paul Gosselaar, 29, and his wife, Lisa, 32, an actress, welcomed their first child, son Michael Charles, Jan. 31 in L.A.

TROUBLE
Soul singer James Brown, 70, was charged with criminal domestic violence Jan. 28 in Aiken, S.C., after he allegedly pushed his wife of two years to the floor during an argument. Tomi Rae Brown, 34, was taken to a local hospital with bruises to her arm and hip. The following day Brown filed for an annulment from Tomi Rae, claiming she never divorced her previous husband. Brown's lawyer said, "He loves her very much, but he's got to make sure the marriage is legal." Tomi Rae could not be reached for comment.

LUCKY BREAK
Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek, 63, fell asleep at the wheel and drove his 1991 Ford pickup off the road on Jan. 31 in Templeton, Calif. The pickup sideswiped several mailboxes and flew 40 feet in the air before coming to rest against a telephone pole. Trebek was not injured. A rep for the quiz master had no comment.

INJURED
As SUV driven by actress Robin Givens (Hollywood Wives: The New Generation), 39, hit 89-year-old Maria Antonia Alcover Jan. 28 in Miami. Alcover was crossing a busy intersection when she was knocked down. The victim's condition, critical when she entered a local hospital, has improved. Police called the case an accident. Givens, who remained at the scene until medics arrived, received a traffic ticket.

AILING
Master and Commander star Russell Crowe, 39, dislocated his shoulder Jan. 29 in Sydney while training for his upcoming role as a heavyweight champ in the drama Cinderella Man. The Oscar winner will likely have arthroscopic surgery on the shoulder, followed by physical therapy. Crowe's injury is expected to delay the start of the film's production from March to April.

LEGAL MATTERS
On Jan. 26 a Chicago judge gave R&B singer R. Kelly, 37, permission to attend the Feb. 8 Grammy Awards in L.A. but ordered him to stay away from pop star Michael Jackson, 45. Kelly, who is awaiting trial on child-pornography charges (PEOPLE, July 15, 2002), has been nominated for best male R&B vocal performance for "Step in the Name of Love." Jackson, who has not been nominated for any Grammy awards, has been charged with molesting a young boy.
