Sure, it's impressive to arrive on the arm of a hot date. But there's nothing like having your nearest and dearest at your side when your name isn't called—or to celebrate with when it is. For these nominees, it was all relative.

Ruth Wood, 95, flashed a red-carpet smile as she arrived on the arm of her son Clint Eastwood, 73.

He may share his children with girlfriend Vanessa Paradis, but the day of the Oscars, Best Actor nominee Johnny Depp shared hairstylist Laurent D. with mom Betty. Both women accompanied him to the ceremony.

Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon brought both their sons along for the evening, but while Jack opted to skip the ceremony—"he just wanted to go to the parties," said his mom—Miles (above), 11 got to watch from the front row as his dad won his first Oscar.

Keisha Castle-Hughes's mom, Desrae, took her home at night's end, saying, "She's tired, it's been a long trip."

Alec Baldwin came with his daughter Ireland, 8, and his brother Billy (left), who was responsible for escorting Ireland home to make her 9 p.m. bedtime.
