Like the Vines (see review, above), Jet is a garage-rock quartet from Down Under. In fact, along with the Vines, as well as the Australian bands Neon and the Living End, Jet is currently storming the States on the Aussie Invasion Tour. Catch these guys now, because their rocket-fueled debut is one of the best rock discs to land in some time. Hailed by Newsweek as "rock's new hope," Jet lives up to the hype with a visceral, hook-laden assault on classic-sounding tracks like "Rollover D.J." and the awesome "Are You Gonna Be My Girl," which shimmies with tambourine, handclaps and the best bass line since the White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army." Jet, anchored by brothers Nic (guitar/lead vocals) and Chris (drums) Cester, also soars on ballads, such as the Stonesy "Move On," that reveal the group's softer side.
