Godsmack

After scoring three straight platinum-plus albums (including last year's No. 1 Faceless) with its hard-hitting rock, Godsmack wants to show its softer side on this acoustic-oriented effort. The seven-track EP features stripped-down renditions of fan faves such as "Keep Away" and "Realign" as well as three new songs. Unfortunately, however, this CD shows that less is sometimes just less. Godsmack simply lacks the melodic and lyrical punch to really pull off the unplugged thing. R.E.M., they are not. At least this time, though, it's easier to understand what frontman Sully Erna is singing.
