The special effects are cool, but that's all this routine disaster film, an eco-thriller about a new Ice Age, has going for it. Dennis Quaid, Jake Gyllenhaal and Sela Ward are the actors stranded in the cold. (PG-13)

Lindsay Lohan sparkles in a cautionary comedy about just how nasty high school can get. SNL's Tina Fey scripted and is amusing as a teacher. (PG-13)
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
The best movie yet about the boy wizard, this one is dark and deep, at least compared to its predecessors. Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), now 13, shows new maturity while confronting some complex and scary situations. (PG)
Shrek 2
If all sequels were as clever as this one, ogres (and film critics) could stop their kvetching. (PG)
