EXPECTING
Celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse, 44, and his wife, Alden, 37, a former real estate broker, are expecting twins in December. Their son E.J. is 1. Lagasse also has two grown daughters from a previous marriage.
SUED
Actor Freddie Prinze Jr. sued his former manager Ric Beddingfield, 52, June 29 in L.A. for fraud and negligence. Prinze, 28, claims Beddingfield interfered with his relationship with his agents and gave the actor bad business advice that resulted in $700,000 in losses. Prinze is seeking unspecified damages. Beddingfield could not be reached for comment.
BIRTHS
On July 6 country singer Kenny Rogers, 65, and his wife of seven years, Wanda, 37, welcomed identical twin boys. Justin Charles and Jordan Edward, the couple's first children together, were born in Atlanta. "When you're in the delivery room and come out with two babies, it's twice as good," said Rogers, who also has three children from previous marriages.
AILING
Former NBA star Manute Bol, 41, suffered a serious head injury June 30 after a car accident in Colchester, Conn. The 7'7" Bol was in a cab that hit a guardrail and swerved across two lanes of a high way before rolling over. The cab's driver was killed. The basketball player, a native of the Sudan, remains hospitalized in Hartford.... Actor James Doohan, 84, best known for playing Scotty on TV's Star Trek, has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. "He is not so sick yet that he doesn't know people," said his wife, Wende, 47. Doohan is also suffering from Parkinson's disease.
UPDATE
Actor Jeffrey Jones, 57, a convicted sex offender, was arrested July 1 and charged with two felonies for failing to notify Florida authorities that he had moved in March from a temporary residence in Sarasota. Jones, who played the principal in 1986's Ferris Bueller's Day Off, pleaded no contest in 2002 to charges of paying a 14-year-old boy to pose for sexually explicit photos (People, Dec. 2,2002). Jones could not be reached for comment.
DEATH
Eric Douglas, son of actor Kirk Douglas, 87, was found dead inside his Manhattan apartment July 6. The aspiring actor and comedian, who had a long history of drug and alcohol problems, was 46. Police said the cause of death is under investigation, but there appeared to be no signs of a break-in or trauma. Douglas had roles in several movies, including 1991's Delta Force 3: The Killing Game. A rep for the Douglas family said they are "very shocked and saddened by the event."
