Napoleon Dynamite

Hilarious deadpan comedy about a high school geek (Jon Heder). The hero's list of what teenage girls want in a boyfriend: bow-hunting, computer-hacking and nunchaku-wielding skills, all of which he lacks. If his quirky list makes you laugh, you're on the same comic wavelength as the movie. (PG)

The Blind Swordsman: Zatoichi

A blind masseur (Takeshi Kitano, below, who also wrote and directed) uses his sword skills to drive a criminal gang from a Japanese village in the 1800s. Weird, bloody and entertaining, right down to a tap-dancing production number at the end.(R)

Before Sunset

Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy (who cowrote the script with director Richard Linklater) reprise their roles from 1995's Before Sunrise, playing lovers who meet again in Paris nine years later. Smart, funny and affecting. (R)
