With the bare midriff, the visible thong and mile-high minis, no body part was left unseen. So now, the pendulum is swinging back to an era of modesty. "It's ladylike handbags, skirts that cover the knees, suits and pussycat bow blouses and dressy coats," says David Wolfe, creative director for the Doneger Group, which forecasts style trends. "We are making a dramatic swing from X-rated to uptight. Mothers and bosses will be happy."
