Newlywed country singer Joe Nichols has entered rehab, his rep says.
"As Joe has alluded to in interviews over the past year, he has struggled with the issue of substance abuse," his management team said in a statement posted on his Web site. "In order to become a healthier person and deal with long standing issues, he has entered into a rehabilitation program for consultation and treatment."
The announcement comes just one month after the "Another Side of You" singer, 30, wed his girlfriend of 12 years, Heather Singleton, 30.
"Right now I feel like the happiest man in the world," the groom told PEOPLE after his Sept. 10 nuptials in Savannah, Ga., calling his new bride "the love of my life."
The couple enjoyed a brief honeymoon in the Florida Keys before Nichols went back on the road to promote his latest album, Real Things.
