• John Mayer, celebrating his birthday by paying a quick visit to New York City nightspot Butter. The singer – who turned 30 on Tuesday – embraced hip-hop mogul Jay-Z, who had been hanging at the club (with his grey sweatshirt hood up) alongside Diddy and a large entourage. Mayer chatted with Diddy, too – dancing a bit, and spending his time between the two rappers in their banquette. Also there: funnyman (and Drew Barrymore beau) Justin Long.

• Avril Lavigne and rocker husband Deryck Whibley, dining at Morton's The Steakhouse in Vancouver after his band, Sum 41, performed in the city. Lavigne showed her carnivorous side, having the filet mignon, while her husband ate sesame encrusted tuna.

• How does hot Gael Garcia Bernal keep up his sexy looks? By pampering himself, of course! The actor popped into West Hollywood's celeb favorite Kinara day spa for a facial. While Bernal was having his face attended to upstairs, Mandy Moore treated herself to a manicure and pedicure.

• Cameron Diaz, taking a break from filming What Happens in Vegas ... to party with costar Lake Bell. The Godiva Liqueur bash was thrown in honor of Bell's interior decorator mother, Robin Bell, at STK, a downtown New York restaurant. And Diaz raved about her, telling PEOPLE, "The house her mother Robin [designed] in [House Beautiful] magazine is beautiful." While Diaz was happy to hang with her friend, she couldn't stick around for too long. "We have to go right now," she told us, laughing, before rushing back to the set. "It's so tricky [to get away], but it was worth it."

• Gabrielle Union, perusing items for auction during the In Living Pink breast cancer fundraiser (to benefit the Young Survival Coalition) at New York's Marquee. When she wasn't scoping out the goods, Union held court at a table upstairs. She then stuck around to support pals Janet Jackson and Jermaine Dupri, who launched his book with a bash at the same venue.

• Lauren Conrad, nursing a pink strawberry blossom martini over a low-key dinner with two female friends at Stanton Social in New York. Looking pretty (but subdued), The Hills star wore her signature side-swept ponytail off her left shoulder – looking "very California."
