ANNULLED
The annulment of the marriage of Renée Zellweger and Kenny Chesney was finalized Dec. 20 in an L.A. court. The actress filed a petition for annulment on Sept. 14, just four months after her nuptials to the country star in the Virgin Islands. Reps for both had no comment.

LEGAL MATTERS
On Dec. 16, a Modesto, Calif., court awarded Sharon Rocha, 54, the mother of Laci Peterson, $250,000 from her slain daughter's life insurance policy following a court battle against her son-in-law Scott Peterson, 33, who was seeking the insurance funds despite being convicted of Laci's December 2002 murder. Late last year, a judge ruled that Rocha should receive the proceeds, but lawyers were granted more time to state their case. A spokesman for Rocha could not be reached for comment.

ARRESTED
Actor Brad Renfro (The Jacket), 23, was arrested Dec. 22 during an L.A.-area drug bust involving 14 other people. He was charged with attempting to possess heroin and released on $10,000 bail. A rep for the actor could not be reached for comment. “He was contrite about being arrested,” said police lieutenant Paul Vernon.

TRIBUTE
Hollywood recently bid farewell to two familiar faces: Vincent Schiavelli, 57, the saggy-eyed character actor whose towering build and hangdog appearance suited his eccentric roles in a slew of popular films, died Dec. 26 in Sicily of lung cancer. In 1975's One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest, Schiavelli was a fellow mental ward patient of Jack Nicholson's, and in 1990 he portrayed a grumpy spirit opposite Patrick Swayze in Ghost. More recently, Schiavelli became an award-winning food writer who penned Italian cookbooks …. Argentina Brunetti, 98, best known for her turn as Italian immigrant Mrs. Martini in the Christmas classic It's a Wonderful Life, died Dec. 20 in Rome of natural causes. Brunetti often portrayed a mother figure, and, like Schiavelli, she was a writer, authoring Italian-language columns. Brunetti was also a founding member of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the governing body for the Golden Globes.
