Picks and Pans Review: Skating with Celebrities

FOX (Mondays, 8 p.m. ET)

Duded up in a cowboy vest and with his skates laced, Todd Bridges teams with medalist Jenni Meno to perform an on-ice tribute to the Will Smith movie Wild Wild West. Poetry in motion? No, and not rap in motion, either. He's just Todd Bridges on ice, with his feet sometimes gliding ahead, sometimes behind, sometimes to the side of him. And for that he deserves our applause.

This unofficial knockoff of Dancing with the Stars doesn't have the same twinkly energy as the ABC hit (which just began a second season). It might be helpful if John Nicks, a figure-skating coach who's one of three judges, didn't issue his opinions with such a gnomish lack of enthusiasm. You wouldn't be surprised if at the end of each round he just whispered “Precious,” like Gollum. But the teaming of skating pros with star amateurs works well. It's hard not to get a kick watching Bruce Jenner execute little waltz leaps.
