Picks and Pans Review: Wordplay

Pencil or ink? Pshaw! For true crossword puzzle fanatics, pencils are for sissies. This breezy documentary offers a glimpse into everything crossword and will appeal to puzzle addicts and even those who find it daunting to fill in the squares (being a bad speller is my excuse). Wordplay profiles genial Will Shortz, the all-powerful puzzle editor at The New York Times and NPR contributor. It also visits such puzzle fanatics as Bill Clinton and Jon Stewart—both pen users—and stops by the annual Crossword Puzzle Tournament, where competition is intense. Our six-letter assessment? W-O-R-T-H-Y. (PG)
