Picks and Pans Review: AFI

These Bay Area rockers flaunt their goth tendencies like so much eyeliner. Just get a load of the name of their fan club: the Despair Faction. DF members can be heard chanting in the background on "Miss Murder," the killer first single from the quartet's seventh album (which opened at No. 1 on the Billboard pop chart). The song combines punk, pop and hardcore into a stomping anthem on which they come off like a darker shade of Green Day. AFI (which stands for A Fire Inside) also incorporates elements of emo on cuts like "Summer Shudder," showing they are a band for all seasons.
