Britney Spears Accidentally Runs Over Cop's Foot

Britney Spears ran over the foot of a female sheriff's deputy during the pandemonium over the singer's court appearance last Friday – but there is no criminal investigation pending, an LAPD official tells PEOPLE.

"As Ms. Spears was leaving the courthouse, a deputy was trying to keep cameramen back, and the deputy's foot was run over," according to LAPD spokeswoman Ana Aguirre. "But this case is closed and appears to have been just an accident."

Images posted on TMZ.com show the singer's white Mercedes-Benz leaving the downtown Stanley Mosk Courthouse, with a deputy standing near her rear right tire.

As for the deputy's condition, Sgt. Naranjo of the sheriff's department said, "I can't comment on how bad the deputy's injuries are.
