NOVEL

This soul-searching comedy presents an America that isn't a red-blue mosaic but a messy purple stew. A divorced mom tries to steer her kid away from an evangelical soccer coach who leads the team in prayers—but whom the mom also finds hot. Perrotta gives equal time to the devout and secular in a funny parable about how we get along with—or even fall for—our sworn ideological enemies.
