CRIME
There are certain pretentious crime dramas that some impressionable young men love to watch and analyze endlessly. We Own the Night, the latest cliché-filled, bombastic tale from writer-director James Gray (The Yards), is made for these guys. Telling a story as old as Cain and Abel, it pits two Brooklyn brothers, a law-skirting nightclub manager (Phoenix) and a cop (Wahlberg), against each other. But will family loyalty win out? Many anguished tirades, contrived plot twists and bloody shootouts later, anyone who still cares will have an answer.
