• The R&B star, 35, has a new CD, The Real Thing: Words and Sounds Vol. 3, and a new film, Why Did I Get Married.

THE FIRST RECORD I EVER BOUGHT The Manhattan Transfer, Mecca for Moderns. It was the one with "Boy from New York City." I was given some money and that song was playing in the store, and I was like, "That's nice." I was really small—I guess I was in the third grade. I used to listen to it on my light-up disco record player.

MY TOUR-BUS MUSIC OF CHOICE My compilation of Prince songs. Anything that has serious instrumentation, like Frankie Beverly and Maze; Earth, Wind & Fire. Whenever somebody is playing their ass off.

MY FAVORITE SUNDAY-MORNING MUSIC My compilation of '80s [songs]: Duran Duran, Boy George [in Culture Club], George Michael, Wham!, Pat Benatar. I'm "Hungry Like the Wolf" on Sunday!

MY RINGTONE Amerie, "1 Thing." I love that song so I won't let it go.

THE SONG THAT PLAYED DURING MY FIRST KISS "All This Love" by DeBarge. I was in the basement sneakin'. I had a big crush on that boy. I was too excited. Through the roof!
