Rascal Flatts

On the Road with Rascal Flatts

As they watch football on a flat-screen TV Sept. 8, Rascal Flatts singer Gary LeVox, 37, guitarist Joe Don Rooney, 32, and bassist Jay DeMarcus, 36, look like regular guys relaxing on the weekend. That is, if average guys kicked back in a luxury bus with a steam shower, copper sinks and 1,200-thread-count sheets on the bunks. But that's what it takes to make these multiplatinum country artists feel at home during their 60-city tour for their new album, Still Feels Good. As pampering as their 360-sq.-ft. bus can be, Rooney says, "You gotta get off it sometimes or you lose your mind." To mix it up, they play golf, pump iron in their mobile gym or get massages. Before show time, all three cram into their tiny bathroom to primp. LeVox makes sure it doesn't devolve into a frat-like mess. "He's Papa Bear, picking up after us like our daddy on the road," says DeMarcus. "I give them time-outs," jokes LeVox. But the family vibe is genuine. "We fight like brothers," says Rooney. "It's so real: blood, sweat and tears."
