Dick Wilson, the pop culture icon known as Mr. Whipple in the Charmin toilet paper ads, died Monday. He was 91.

The actor died of natural causes at the Motion Picture & Television Fund Hospital in Woodland Hills, Calif., his daughter Melanie Wilson tells the Associated Press.

Wilson made over 500 commercials, from 1964 through 1985, as the curmudgeonly grocer who advised his shoppers, "Please don't squeeze the Charmin," and then stole a few pinches himself.

Wilson, a former Canadian airman and vaudeville veteran, also appeared on many sitcoms, including Bewitched and The Bob Newhart Show.
