Jessica Sierra, a top ten finalist on American Idol in 2005, went before a different kind of judge in Tampa, Fla. Monday.

The 22-year-old singer pleaded no contest to felony charges of battery and cocaine possession stemming from an arrest in April, according to local news reports. She was sentenced to 12 months of probation.

Sierra was arrested Apr. 29 after throwing a cocktail glass at a bar patron's head and was taken to jail where cocaine was found in her purse.

She has been undergoing drug and alcohol rehabilitation in California as part of a VH1 celebrity rehab reality show set to air next year. She will have to undergo random drug screening as part of her probation.

"She's done very well," her attorney, John Fitzgibbons, told PEOPLE of the treatment Sierra has received.

"The TV show did offer her the opportunity to participate in a drug treatment program, and our feeling was, there was no downside to it," Fitzgibbons said. "It's an excellent program, and she got help, and that can be very expensive in today's world. So it’s kind of a win-win for her."

After the year’s probation, Sierra can have the charge removed from her record.
