Perelman, 64, the Revlon mogul, has sued Ellen and George Barkin, claiming they are siphoning off funds from a production company the three started in 2005. A rep for the company, Applehead I, said Thursday that Perelman's "cynical abuse of the legal system is disappointing, but not surprising."
In a statement, a spokesman said the suit is "frivolous," "without merit" and "yet another attempt [by Perelman] to avoid honoring his written contract to contribute more than $3 million to Applehead Pictures," the Associated Press reports.
Barkin, 53, had sued Perelman in August, claiming he failed to make good on a promise, made during their marriage, to invest $3.4 million in Applehead.
"The fact is, Applehead only has money because others stepped in to contribute what Perelman wrongfully withheld," the statement said.
The couple divorced in 2006.
