The troubles continue for former American Idol contestant Jessica Sierra, who was ordered to drug rehab Monday by a Tampa judge, FOX news reports.
Sierra, now pregnant, has been in jail in Hillsborough County, Fla. for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and violating probation on previous charges of felony battery and cocaine possession.
Appearing in court on her behalf, Dr. Drew Pinsky, who treated Sierra, 22, as part of the VH1 reality series Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, told Judge Daniel Perry that Sierra's addictions are life-threatening. "Without that treatment and with further incarceration, there could be a very serious problem for her," said Pinsky. "I think her survival is in question."
Sierra will spend at least one year at the Pasadena Recovery Center, where she will receive free treatment as part of Pinsky’s reality show. Judge Perry ordered her not to do any publicity in conjunction with her stay at the facility. "I don't want this to be some stepping stone for her to have some sort of a career as a recovery addict," he warned. "This is not a career."
If Sierra doesn't shape up, she could face up to 11 years behind bars. "You will be going to prison," he told her. "And if you don’t think I'll put you there, give me a try."
Sierra, who’ll remain in jail until she is transferred, must serve three years’ probation after rehab and submit to random drug and alcohol testing. She must get a full-time job after completing treatment.
"She's in jail, she's pregnant, what else can go wrong?" said her father, Joe Sierra. "Let's hope that's it. …The rest of it is up from here. That's it, it's all up from here."
