Just hours after President Nicolas Sarkozy told the world of his romance with ex-supermodel Carla Bruni, France's first couple had Bono over to private dinner at the Élysées Palace Tuesday night. Upon leaving, the singer was accompanied into the Palace's courtyard by a liveried footman, who placed a parting gift of state – a large flat blue package tied with ribbon – into the trunk of his chauffeured Mercedes.
