Music legend Ike Turner died of a cocaine overdose, the San Diego medical examiner’s office confirmed Wednesday, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The R&B music pioneer and ex-husband of Tina Turner was 76 when he died Dec. 12 at his home in San Marcos, Calif. The coroner’s report lists the cause of Turner’s death as “cocaine toxicity.”

Turner, whose volatile relationship with his wife was chronicled in her autobiography and the movie What’s Love Got to Do With It? had struggled with drug addiction since the mid-1970s.
