Oscar Watch: Academy Awards Ballots Mailed

Even though uncertainly about the Oscarcast remains because of the ongoing Hollywood writers' strike, final ballots for the 80th Academy Awards were mailed to the 5,829 voting members of the Academy on Wednesday.

While the Golden Globes and People's Choice Awards were shadows of their usual selves because of the strike, last Sunday’s star-studded Screen Actors Guild Awards received a waiver from the Writers Guild – as have the Feb. 10 Grammys, which received a special waiver from the guild to proceed as planned.

It remains to be seen if the movie academy will receive a similar waiver. Some actors have spoken out to say they will not cross picket lines.

The Academy Awards are scheduled to air live on ABC from Hollywood's Kodak Theatre on Sunday, Feb. 24. Leading the list of nominees, with eight nominations each, are the dramas No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood.
