The pair sat alone for some time, as the actor sipped water from a bottle and held his girlfriend's hand. Later, they were joined by male friend – one of McConaughey's buddies – and they dialed up the volume on their conversation.

• Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, brunching with daughter Violet at the kid-friendly Kay 'n Dave's in Brentwood, Calif. When they finished eating, Garner stayed behind with Violet, chatting up a neighboring table while Affleck fetched the car for the family.

• Sienna Miller, in baby blue sunglasses, smooching boyfriend Rhys Ifans outside Urth Caffe in Los Angeles.

• Forest Whitaker, splitting the arugula salad and penne porcini with his wife, Keisha, at Los Angeles's Mauro's Café at Fred Segal – their regular order, according to a source.

• Tony Bennett and wife Susan, lunching with the producer and star of the independent hit Bella, Eduardo Verastegui, at Michael's in New York City. As a special treat during lunch, the singer took a page from Verastegui's notebook and did an impromptu pencil sketch of his new friend.
