RECORD OF THE YEAR
Befitting the status of this category, this is a killer lineup, with only "The Pretender" not being a worthy winner. As great of a breakup anthem as "Irreplaceable" is, though, it feels a bit too old, like it should have been nominated last year. Timberlake's hit revenge song—which, like Beyoncé's tune, is from a 2006 album—also seems to have been around forever. In "Rehab," Winehouse provided a funny but seriously soulful look into her psyche that has struck a more sobering chord as time has passed. But if there is one record that really has our heart, it's "Umbrella." With Rihanna offering shelter from the storm, this hip-pop smash, right down to the ice-cool assist from Jay-Z, is her very own "Crazy in Love."
