It's said to be one of the most expensive divorce settlements in the world – and it may turn out to be one of the longest-running.

Heather Mills and the legal team acting for Paul McCartney left the gothic battlements of London's Royal Courts of Justice Monday as far from settlement as when they first entered the building seven days before.

Despite reports that Mills had settled for a $100 million-share of the former Beatle's estimated $1.7-billion fortune, both sides remain deadlocked.

It now remains for the judge in the case to arrive at the fairest settlement to end the couple's five-year marriage.

McCartney was not in court. According to the British Press Association, he likely was rehearsing for his upcoming live performance at Wednesday's BRIT Awards, the U.K. equivalent of the Grammys.
